The Ocean Center will provide a wide variety of recreational and educational activities for both Hatteras Island visitors and residents of all ages. With plenty of parking and within walking distance of central Hatteras Village, the Ocean Center will be frequently visited by Island renters and residents, a major destination for day-trippers, and a favorite stopover for travelers going to and from Ocracoke Island. The Ocean Center will play an important economic redevelopment role as Hatteras Island fully embraces ecotourism.

Hatteras Island Ocean Center, Inc. is North Carolina, not-for-profit corporation in the process of obtaining IRS 501(c)(3) status. The National Park Service supports the concept of the Ocean Center and is working to determine the appropriate mechanism to authorize the pier to cross park property.
